[ブリュッセル 24日 ロイター] – The European Commission (EU) has concluded an analysis that the proposed cap on natural gas prices could lead to an increase in the use of gas in the region. Reuters confirmed the relevant documents.

EU energy ministers are expected to discuss a gas price cap on Thursday. Negotiations over a gas price cap have been going on within the EU for weeks, but some member states, including Germany, are opposed, and no agreement has been reached.

According to documents seen by Reuters, the European Commission has analyzed the impact of power generation gas price caps already in place in Spain and Portugal and shared the results with member states.

France is proposing to roll it out across the region, but the European Commission says it could increase demand for EU gas by up to 9 billion cubic metres.

The European Commission also said that measures would be needed to prevent the export of electricity at a reduced price to countries outside the EU such as Britain and Switzerland.
