Post Ranch Inn, Big Sur, California
This hotel is hidden on a cliff at 1,200 feet above sea level, in the mystical Big Sur of California. On one side, there are 180 degree views of the big blue; on the other, a frame similar to an oil painting of the Double Cone and Manuel peaks. The wooden huts and the angular treehouses are architectural marvels – the restaurant, which has glass walls on one side, hangs above the hill to make you feel closer to the sky than the Earth. The two infinity pools, heated to 40 degrees Celsius, are available 24 hours a day – that’s where I spotted condors, deer, rabbits and even, one afternoon, the faint rings of whales breaking below.
