The Coimbatore blast is suspected to be an attempted murder; NIA will investigate Kerala | Deshabhimani

The National Investigation Agency has taken up the explosion case where a cooking gas cylinder exploded in a car in Ukkadam, Coimbatore. This is due to the suspicion of terrorist links. A case was registered under UAPA. An investigation is also being carried out into whether it was a suicide attack.
The blast took place near the Kottamedu temple at 4am on Sunday. Jamesha Mubeen (25), who was driving the car, was killed in the incident. In 2019, Jamesha Mubeen, a native of Ukkadam and an engineering graduate, was questioned by the NIA over suspected IS links.

Coimbatore police arrested five people in connection with the blast. Those arrested are Muhammad Azharuddin, Muhammad Riaz, Muhammad Nawaz Ismail, Brice Ismail and Muhammad Tohalka of Ukkadam CM Nagar, who is closely associated with Jamesha Mubeen. One of the two exposed cylinders in the Maruti 800 petrol car exploded.

CCTV footage was obtained of Jamesha Mubeen loading explosives into the car. 75 kg of explosives have been seized from his house. According to reports, he belongs to Muhammad Azharuddin, who is in jail in Kerala due to his connection with IS.
