The Conners promotes Jay R Ferguson to series regular before season 3

The Conners confirmed Jay R. Ferguson was promoted to a regular series prior to season three.

The actor was introduced as Ben in the first season of the Roseanne spin off alongside Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf and John Goodman, and went on to play a bigger role in his next installment as the character began a romance. love with Darlene Conner of the first.

So it makes sense that his involvement in the future has been cemented in television terms.

Back when TV Line asked if Ferguson would switch to becoming a full-time cast member last year, executive producer Bruce Helford told the publication that it was something that “hasn’t come out yet.” However, he assured fans that that didn’t mean Ben was going somewhere anytime soon.

“Jay and Sara [Gilbert] they have a long history. They’ve been friends since they were teenagers, and their chemistry is so damn good. We didn’t know [the Darlene/Ben relationship] it would have been long-term.

“At one point we were planning to make her think of someone else and blow this relationship up. But while we watched them we [realized] you can’t get much better than the way they behave with each other because they are two alphas that go into it. And there is a real affection between them in real life. “

“We have a lot of regulars,” he added shyly, before clarifying, “But I sure think it’s likely Jay will be around for a long time.”

The Conners returns to ABC in the US on Wednesday, October 21.
