The Electoral Commission says there is no link between the Popular Front and the SDPI No links have been found between PFI and SDPI, says the head of the polling body

The Election Commission has said that there is no connection between the Popular Front and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), an organization that was banned from operating in the country a few days ago. The Electoral Commission said no evidence linking the two organizations had been found so far.

On 28 September, the central government banned PFI and its affiliates for five years, citing security threats and terrorism links. A total of nine organizations have been declared ‘illegal’ under the UAPA.

They said Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar told ‘IndiaToday’ that SDPI has submitted all required documents before the commission and so far there is no evidence of any link between PFI and SDPI. “We are aware of the action against PFI. SDPI has submitted all the required documents. No link has yet been established between PFI and SDPI. There has been no failure on their part,” said Rajeev Kumar.

SDPI was formed on 21 June, 2009. It was registered with the Election Commission of India on 13 April 2010. So far SDPI members have been elected in Municipal Corporations and Gram Panchayats in the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh , Karnataka, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.
