According to information relayed by the Freebox Univers site, the Freebox v8, called Freebox POP, could go up to a speed of 2.5 Gbit / s, against only 1 Gbit / s for the previous model, the Freebox Mini 4K .
Last week, Netflix released some information about the Freebox POP, the next generation of Freebox to be presented in the coming months by the Internet service provider. This Sunday, it is the Univers Freebox site which discovered other information thanks to one of the members of its community.
Indeed, Tiino-X83 posted a message on Twitter with two screenshots of the beta 4.2 version of the Freebox Revolution software. He was able to discover there, among the differences with that of the current Freebox, some lines of code mentioning the “fbxgw8-rl”, also known under the name of Freebox v8. Going a little further in the characteristics of the box, he could see that it would be compatible with a maximum speed of 2.5 Gbit / s. For comparison, the Freebox Delta can go up to 10 Gbit / s, while the Freebox Mini 4K, the old accessible box for the operator, was limited to 1 Gbit / s.
So we’re all talking about the Freebox V8 (Pop), but we don’t know anything about it!
Ha but yes! It arrives and then it will be compatible 2.5 Gbit / s !! 😏

It must be said that the Freebox v8 should not succeed the Freebox Delta launched a year and a half ago, but the Freebox Mini 4K. It would indeed be a more accessible box, like the Freebox Mini 4K, launched in 2015, or the Freebox Crystal, launched in 2013.
A Freebox v8 which would be called Freebox POP
In addition to this higher speed, we learned last week some information about this Freebox v8 thanks to a document from Netflix. This presented Free’s future box as the « Freebox POP ». We could read in particular that the box would be compatible with Netflix for subtitles, the different audio tracks, but also 5.1 surround sound and Dolby Atmos.
The Freebox v8 – or Freebox POP – should be officially presented in the coming months. Its mention in the documentation of Netflix as well as in the beta software of the Freebox Revolution suggests indeed an imminent presentation of the box. For now, we still ignore the design, features and functionality.
