National Basketball Associations (NBA), Commissioner Adam Silvers does not rule out the possibility that the season could be canceled altogether, despite plans to resume it at Disneyland in Orlando.
Today in the NBA published by game schedule for the continuation of the season, and it is known that the tournament will resume on July 31 and end on October 12 at the latest. It is also known that the NBA draft will take place on October 16, but the free agent market will open on October 18.
“We believe we have made a safe and meaningful plan to relaunch the season,” Silvers said during a conference call on Friday. “We have no choice but to live with the virus, because there are no risk-free options. We must not simply give up at this time – we must be able to adapt. ”
“We want to get back on track because sport is important to society,” Silvers continued. “It simply came to our notice then. We haven’t gone through all the scenarios, but if there is another huge outbreak of the coronavirus, it could force us to cancel the season right away. We will continue the work we have started, because we feel quite comfortable at the moment. ”
The decision to continue the season is also supported by one of the vice-presidents of the NBA Players Association, Andre Igudala, who plays for the Miami “Heat” team. “We are aware of the risks, but everyone is ready to sacrifice. Many people in the United States do not have jobs today. ”
Some NBA players have opposed the resumption of the season, such as Cairo Irving, one of Brooklyn’s Nets leaders. Also, several players have withdrawn from the season for personal reasons. The first of them was Latvian Dāvis Bertāns, followed by such players as Trevors Ariza and Eiverijs Bradlijs.
