The new generation of gaming machine king uses S8+ Gen 1 processor! ASUS ROG Phone 6 / 6 Pro Unboxing Review-ePrice.HK

If someone asks me, I will say, if you want a powerful mobile phone, the ASUS ROG Phone series dares to recognize the second, and I believe no one dares to recognize the first. Even if it is true, I will talk: not enough. When it comes to playing games, the ROG Phone series is really complete and powerful. Starting with ROG Phone 2, I have used it to play PUBG until the previous generation of ROG Phone 5, and I started to get tired of not playing. It turns out that the sixth-generation ROG Phone 6 series, including ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro, has been released in the blink of an eye. Before the global release, we have simply tried this phone out of the box. After all, this time What about an upgrade? Check it out!

ASUS ROG Phone 6 + ROG Phone 6 Pro Unboxing

The ASUS ROG Phone 6 series has two models this time, namely ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro. The two phones are actually not very big, and most of the specifications are the same, both with a 6.78-inch Samsung E4 AMOLED screen , with a resolution of 2448 X 1080, supports a 165Hz screen refresh rate and a 720Hz touch sampling rate, without any notch or bangs design, but with a short forehead and chin, protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. In addition, the screen also supports 111% DCI-P3 color gamut display and HDR10+, and has Delta-E

The main difference between the two phones is the ROG Vision lighting effect on the back, and the same color of RAM/ROM. Zhong remembers the ROG Phone 5 last year, and the Ultimate version came first in white. This time, whether the Pro version is set or not, there is white. However, the Pro version has more black options than the Pro version. Both phones support IPX4 waterproof and use LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 ROM. ROG Phone 6 will have two capacity versions of 12GB RAM + 256GB and 16GB + 512GB, while ROG Phone 6 Pro can reach up to 18GB + 512GB ROM.

In terms of appearance design, the back cover of ROG Phone 6 has two sets of RGB lighting effects that support Aura Sync, one of which is the smaller “Dare to play” word, and the other is the dotted logo of the prodigal’s eye. Although the logo lighting effect cannot be changed, the user can customize the lighting effect color in the settings, and can also set different colors on the left and right sides of the logo, so that it can display the gradient light effect. In addition, in the settings, you can customize different colors of lights for different situations, such as X mode, screen on, screen off, charging, incoming calls, etc.

As for the ROG Phone 6 Pro, in addition to the small “Dare to Play” lighting effect, the back of the phone is also designed with a “ROG Vision” secondary screen. Users can choose from more than 60 ROG Vision screen animations and use their own pictures. Customize the display screen. In addition, ROG Vision can also customize different animations for 6 situations, such as screen on, X Mode, charging, connecting accessories, game startup, voice calls, and more.

Let’s take a look at the unboxing of ROG Phone 6 Pro first, because it is relatively special:

Aeroactive Cooler cooling fan for excellent heat dissipation

The ROG Phone 6 series is designed with a sandwich cooling system, with two graphite sheets sandwiching a large VC cooling plate; compared with the previous generation, the area of the graphite sheet is 85% larger, and the VC cooling plate is also 30% larger, which is more efficient Rapid heat conduction. In addition, a thermal paste made of boron nitride (Boron Nitride) is also used on the top of the processor, which has excellent thermal conductivity and insulation, and can reduce the temperature of the processor by up to 10 degrees.

In addition to passive cooling components, ASUS has also designed a new Aeroactive Cooler external cooling fan as before, and added a cooling semiconductor chip for the first time. After conducting electricity through the semiconductor, one side will have a cooling effect to directly absorb the mobile phone. The waste heat generated is quickly removed by the cooling fan.

This Aeroactive Cooler fan is powered through the USB-C terminal on the side of the phone, but it also has a built-in USB-C port, so you can also plug in the charging cable for charging when you play games with the fan installed. In addition, the fan has 3 cooling gears: “Air Cooling Mode” that only activates the fan, “Cold Mode” that activates the fan and cooling chip, and “Frozen Mode” that activates a powerful fan and powerful cooling. “Because the power required is relatively large, it must be plugged in the charging cable before it can be turned on; and the fan will also be turned on to the maximum under this gear, so you will hear obvious fan noise. We measured the noise value, and the fan is not turned on. The ambient noise is about 36 decibels, and the “cold mode” is 50 decibels. As for the “freeze mode”, the noise value soars to about 64 decibels, which sounds like the fan of the laptop is turned on to the maximum.

The moderator tried to use this external fan to play a game of PUBG Mobile, and it still feels cool after the game. It only increased from 31 degrees to 38 degrees. Although the increase is 7 degrees, 38 degrees itself is not enough. It’s a very low temperature. However, it is enough to talk about it. If you turn on the 165Hz screen refresh rate and use the Aeroactive Cooler fan, it will consume more power. After eating a chicken for about half an hour, it has dropped from 56% to 33%, which means less power. 23%.

IMG_6134.JPG

▲ Each fan can be used as a stand.

IMG_6136.JPG

▲ Don’t be afraid to press the power button, there will be a power button on the fan.

IMG_6132.JPG

▲ A fan is inserted into a USB-C slot on the side of the phone.

IMG_6133.JPG

▲ The whole design is quite stylish.

ASUS ROG Phone 6 series benchmark

As a flagship gaming phone, the ROG Phone 6 series is also very particular about performance. It directly skips the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor used in the flagship in the first half of this year, and uses the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 first released in May. 1 processor, with a maximum clock frequency of 3.2GHz, compared to the S8 Gen 1, the performance of the CPU and GPU is increased by 10%, and the energy efficiency is improved by 30%. In addition, ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro have a built-in 6000mAh battery, support 65W USB-PD fast charging, and use the same mid-processor design as ROG Phone 5, so the battery uses two 3000mAh capacity modules, placed in the Both sides of the processor board.

▲ ASUS said that using the ROG Phone 6 with S8+ Gen 1 processor, the AnTuTu running score can reach 1.127 million points, and our score is 1,111,801 points, which is similar to what ASUS said.

▲ AndroBench 5 is used to test the read and write speed of ROM. The continuous read and continuous write speeds are 1988.81 MB/s and 1495.55 MB/s respectively, which means that the ROG Phone 6 series uses UFS 3.1.

Charging and endurance test

Like the previous generation, ROG Phone 6 Pro is equipped with a 6000 mAh battery capacity, divided into two 3000 mAh battery modules, and supports 65W PD fast charging; it is a thoughtful move to attach a 65W charger directly to the mobile phone package. And it charges fairly quickly, charging the phone from 3% to full in just 47 minutes when using the original charger and cable.

▲ The charging curve of ROG Phone 6 Pro.

In terms of battery life, we first used PCMark’s battery life test function to measure the power consumption of the mobile phone from 100% to 20% when the airplane mode was turned on, and the screen brightness and volume were both 50%. The ROG Phone 6 Pro screen supports multiple update rates, so we also tested three update rates, the lowest 60Hz, the highest 165Hz, and the phone’s default “auto” update rate. (all with X mode turned off)

The results are shown in the figure below. Under the 60Hz update rate, the battery life of the mobile phone is 19 hours and 4 minutes, 14 hours and 28 minutes under the 165Hz update rate, and 19 hours and 4 minutes with the automatic update rate. In the PCMark test section, the automatic update rate is roughly locked at 60Hz. However, even if the update rate is turned to the highest, the battery life of 14 and a half hours is not bad. If you want to achieve a balance between battery life and user experience, you can also adjust the update rate to the preset automatic mode.

Triple-lens main camera

Although e-sports mobile phones generally do not pay much attention to taking pictures, the ROG Phone 6 has also upgraded the specifications of the camera. It has a built-in three-lens main camera. The standard lens uses a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 sensor with a size of 1/1.56 inches, emphasizing that the pixel size is 40% larger than that of ROG Phone 5; it is also equipped with a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a It has a 5-megapixel macro lens and a 12-megapixel front camera with an IMX663 sensor.

summary

The ROG Phone 6 Pro that I will show you today has been carefully equipped. The built-in S8+G1 processor performs quite well, and ASUS has also put a lot of effort into heat dissipation, so that mobile game players have better experience. In addition, the battery life of the mobile phone is also remarkable in general use. Of course, there is also a complete ecosystem of accessories. For a flagship gaming phone, the ROG Phone 6 series is very OK.

It’s just that the difference between the two models of the ROG Phone 6 series is a bit too small, so everyone doesn’t know where the “Pro” is. In case, the general edition offers more competitive prices. But overall, for heavy mobile game players, the ROG Phone 6 series is also a good purchase.
