Peoria (WEEK) – A Peoria Veterans home received a gift from a local nonprofit, with the aim of enhancing their free time.
The Peoria Pilot Club donated a TV, Blu-Ray player, soundbar and Netflix subscription to General Wayne A. Downing Home for Veterans.
Started in 2005, it’s a 15-bedroom facility that provides an intensive holistic program that helps veterans with mental health counseling, medical assistance, and even education and job placement.
Their original TV was over 15 years old.
“I think the kids down here are happy football season, they’re big cubs and bear fans, hardcore bear fans big time. And so to make sure they have the new TV technology here,” Don Johnson said with Goodwill Industries of Central. Illinois, “Guys spend a lot more time here so all these little things have a big impact on their lives.”
The Peoria Pilot Club has been serving the community since 1939.
