‘The Place of the Fathers’; He will pray for uncle to be home; Remember Shawn George | Shone George | Bineesh Kodiyeri

Shawn George said that Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had his own father’s job. Shaun said that because of his close friendship with Bineesh Kodiyeri, he also sees him as a member of the Kodiyeri household. Shawn painfully writes those memories on Facebook.

“It was a time when Bineesh and I were very active in student politics. Naturally, we used to go to that house after all the problems related to strike, police cases and riots that arose during the that period. I used to go and pray that Uncle would be at home because the scolding we get from Aunty would have been somewhat remedied if Uncle had been there. If he had been there, he would have eased those problems with a little smile, and now, that little smile is her signature Shawn remembers.

The full text of the note reads:

If I ask who this man was to me, I cannot give a one word answer….

Bineesh and I became close friends when I was studying for PDC at Mar Ivanios College in Thiruvananthapuram. From that day he considered me only as a member of that family. The love, affection and care of a son was with me now and now. It was a time when Bineesh and I were very active in student politics, and naturally, we used to go to that house after all the problems related to strike, police cases and riots that arose during that period. I used to go and pray that Uncle would be at home because the scolding we get from Aunty would have been remedied somewhat if Uncle was there. If he had done that, he would have alleviated those problems with a small smile, Then and now, his face is always that small smile, a personality that faces big problems with restraint and a small smile. In my mind, that man was always in the same position as his father.

He always had that concern for me for the last two decades. He didn’t talk about politics with me because I wasn’t the person who had the qualifications, the age or the maturity to talk politics with him. I am meeting him to tell him that Bineesh and Ninu and I are starting an office together in Ernakulam. During our long conversation, he shared his great joy at returning to an active professional life and also talked about politics with me. He told me that you must continue active political work along with your profession and that you can do it. He showed me the care of a father there too.

I have never met anyone else who was so disciplined in his personal life. Uncle would get up at 4.30 sharp. He would always exercise on time. I have never seen a man who lived such a regular life without any bad habits. Those patterns were evident in his personal life as well. A smile-faced personality no matter how many crisis topics we get into. Even when he was Home Minister and CPM State Secretary, I did not ask him for anything till now. But it was a huge influence on everything I did. He and everyone in that family met all my personal needs. As a member of the family we all feel the pain of losing the family cause.. can’t believe that a big impact is gone.

I was very sure that the second Pinarayi government would come back. Because there has never been a secretary of state who has moved the CPM organization like this when he was in power. I am a person who believes that the period 2016-21 has not seen any other time when the organization has grown like this. It was because of his great influence that he became the party’s regional secretary at the age of 35 in the party’s power center like Kannur. To this day there has never been a wrong word from that tongue and there never will be, everyone knew that…

Goodbye dear uncle with great sadness…
