Then Nayanar, today Kodiyeri; Pinarayi rejects ‘Brother’: A Taniyavartan- Pinarayi Vijayan

Kannur∙ “No..no, he will not die, our comrade..lives through us..”; EK When the body of Kediyeri Balakrishnan reached the place between the graves of Nayanar and Chadayan Govindan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stood in front of it carrying the body on his shoulder amid waves of slogans.

The crowd came with excruciating pain and their eyes filled with the cries of Lal Salam’s comrades. He was repeating another story when Pinarayi Vijayan walked ahead carrying the dead body on his shoulder in pain of losing his brother.

In 2004, when EK Nayanar’s body was brought from Thiruvananthapuram to Kannur as a mourning procession, Pinarayi Vijayan, who was the CPM state secretary at the time, was in the lead to shoulder Nayanar’s body. “Ours are not fraternal, but a true brotherhood. “We are the ones who have walked the same path together,” Pinarayi’s memory was filled with the pain of losing his brother.

The body was brought to Payyambalam in a mourning procession from the CPM district committee office, Azhikodan Mandir. Chief Minister and CPM State Secretary MV Govindan and others accompanied him on foot. A huge crowd was waiting to catch a last glimpse of the beloved leader along the way.
