LONDON (AP) – Tottenham received a goodbye Friday to move on to a League Cup match with Chelsea after their match against Leyton Orient was canceled due to a coronavirus outbreak in the fourth division team.
Tottenham will now host Chelsea in the fourth round on Tuesday in a series of three home games in three different competitions over five days. Jose Mourinho’s side will play Newcastle in the Premier League on Sunday and Maccabi Haifa in qualifying for the Europa League on Thursday.
Saturday’s Orient League Two game against Walsall was also canceled due to team members having to isolate themselves.
The East London club had hoped to reorganize the match against Tottenham after it was canceled just hours before kick-off on Tuesday. The organizers of the League Cup have decided that “he was unable to fulfill his obligations to complete the match … and therefore will lose the draw”.
