Avoiding a collision with an animal, the driver shot a cyclist to death in Olaine region, informed Elīna Priedīte, a senior specialist of the Public Relations Department of the State Police.
She said that today at around 10 o’clock a call was received in Stūnīši, Olaine region, where a road traffic accident had occurred, as a result of which a person died.
Preliminary information shows that the driver of the Škoda car was driving on the road on which the animal ran. To avoid a collision, the driver left the road and, unable to regain control of the vehicle, ran into a cyclist who died at the scene of the injuries.
The car driver was also injured in the accident.
The State Police is still investigating the circumstances.
Six people have already lost their lives on Latvian roads this weekend.
