Phil Parkinson says that Aiden O’Brien’s versatility will be the key to Sunderland next season.
The Irish international has signed a two-year deal to become the club’s first summer signature.
The versatile striker can play anywhere on the front lines as he was a popular character in The Den, where he scored 44 goals in 226 appearances over a ten-year period.
He was released after his contract expired a week ago and Sunderland moved quickly.
Last season O’Brien scored four goals in 21 appearances in all competitions, operating mainly as a left winger.

Sunderland also confirmed that talented defender Brandon Taylor has agreed on a new one-year deal to stay with the club.
“” The manager gave me a taste of first team football last season, so I will continue to work hard and hope I can gain more opportunities during the next campaign, “said Taylor.
