The Egyptian Football Association, headed by Gamal Allam, will hold an urgent meeting in the next few hours, in order to resolve the fate of Portuguese Rui Vitoria, the coach of the Egyptian national team, following the team’s exit from the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
The Egyptian national team bid farewell to the African Nations Championship, after losing to the Democratic Republic of the Congo with a score of 8-7 on penalties, after the match’s original and extra time ended in a positive draw 1-1.
Al-Masry Al-Youm learned that the Football Association will hold an urgent meeting in the coming hours to decide whether or not Vitoria will remain at the head of the technical leadership of the team in the coming period.
There are voices within the Football Association demanding the departure of the Portuguese coach and the termination of his contract, after the poor level that the Egyptian national team showed during its journey in the African Championship and its failure to achieve victory in the 4 matches it played.
Vitoria receives 200 thousand euros per month, and if any party wishes to terminate the contract, he must pay a penalty clause of 3 months’ salary.
The Portuguese coach took over as coach of the Egyptian national team in July 2022 for the next 4 years, succeeding Ihab Galal, who was dismissed.
