The United States condemned North Korea’s ballistic missile launch over Japan today and predicted a decisive response.

“The United States strongly condemns North Korea’s reckless and dangerous decision to launch a long-range ballistic missile over Japan,” the White House National Security Council said in a statement on behalf of a spokesman.

“This action creates regional unrest and demonstrates North Korea’s blatant disregard for UN Security Council resolutions and international security norms.”

The White House National Security Council also said that national security adviser Jake Sullivan spoke with South Korea’s Kim Seong-han, director of national security in the presidential office, and Japan’s national security chief, Takeo Akiba, respectively, shortly on after the North Korean missile launch.

“In both calls, Councilor Sullivan discussed an appropriate, decisive and joint international response,” he said.

The US Indo-Pacific Command said in a statement that it is “in close consultation with Japan, South Korea and other allies and partners in the region to address the threat posed by North Korea.”

“The United States strongly condemns this behavior and urges North Korea to refrain from further illegal and destabilizing actions,” he said.
