Trader Joe’s client who was photographed in an anti-mask tirade that has been viewed millions of times online spoke to CBS Los Angeles on Sunday.
It was opening day at the Trader Joe’s store in North Hollywood when the viral customer tried to shop without covering his face.
“I have a problem with breathing, basically, my nose,” said the woman.
The woman said the store manager allowed her to shop without a mask that night.
The woman told CBS LA that an employee had offered to shop for her and that she could wait outside, but she wanted to buy for herself.
But, she said, a man began to curse her for wearing a mask. She said she felt threatened.
“No one was helping me, so that’s what they show in the video,” she said.
The video showed her screaming at the other buyers who demanded that she put on a mask, saying that they were violating federal law.
It was at this point that anger erupted, during which she called people “democratic pigs.”
“At that time, I felt that they were acting like pigs,” she said. “Do I regret it? No. I mean, not really at that time, no.”
While Trader Joe’s store policy does not require masks but encourages them instead, Governor Gavin Newsom recently issued a nationwide mandate to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
After the explosion, the woman was asked to leave the store but did not do so at the start, saying that she “had done nothing wrong”.
Police were called but no charges were laid and the woman returned home, vowing not to review the location of this trader Joe.
On Sunday evening, two men were seen shopping in the store without a mask and were quickly escorted.
