National Data Agency figures released in June show that men’s household labor production value increased by more than 35% over a five-year period, as reported by Kormedi. Domestic management tasks among men, including cleaning and meal preparation, rose by 43.6%, while family caregiving duties increased by 13.9%. Women experienced a 4.0% decrease in family caregiving duties, but their overall domestic management responsibilities rose by 20.6%. Despite these increases in male participation, women still account for over 73% of total domestic labor, with female workloads continuing through age 84 and reaching up to 7.7 times the volume of men’s labor during peak working years, according to the agency data.
Extended Longevity and Essential Domestic Sharing
As children move out after marriage, couples frequently spend 20 to 30 years living in two-person households, making domestic sharing an operational necessity rather than a choice. National Data Agency figures cited by Kormedi show that single-person and couple-only households comprise over 70% of older demographics, with family management tasks among adults aged 65 and older increasing by 55.9%. Because physical strength declines for both husbands and wives with age, relying solely on female partners for housework is no longer viable.

The World Health Organization classifies routine chores like cleaning and dishwashing as valuable physical activity that supports healthy longevity, particularly for middle-aged and older adults, Kormedi reported. Integrating simple movements, such as lifting heels repeatedly while washing dishes after a meal, helps manage blood sugar levels amid rising diabetes concerns. Experts emphasize that avoiding prolonged sitting after meals turns daily chores into personal health maintenance rather than mere obligations.
