[World Now] ‘Hey, are you okay?’ American restaurant employee who saved abusive boy by note

A teenage boy starving alone among his family eating out on New Year’s Day

A restaurant in Orlando, Florida, USA on January 1st last year. As it was New Year’s Day, there were many family guests. Flavian Cervalo, a restaurant worker, noticed something strange about the family sitting at the same table.

It was because the youngest boy in the family was sitting around starving without ordering any food.

The boy was wearing a mask and a t-shirt with a cap, but a scar was visible between his eyebrows.

‘Do you need help?’ Communicate blindly with parents by note

The waitress approached the table and asked, ‘Is there anything else you need?’, but the adults said it was ok.

But a closer look reveals bruises on the boy’s face and arms.

She went back and wrote ‘Are you alright?’

Seeing the note, the boy shook his head.

The boy nodded, this time as Kervalo secretly showed him the note he wrote ‘Do you need help?’

Kervalo immediately informed the restaurant manager and called the police.

Boy who suffered from stepfather abuse, rescued by employee’s eye

Police investigations have revealed that the 12-year-old boy was suffering from severe abuse by his stepfather.

The stepfather often starved and beat his stepson, and on some days he hung them upside down from a door frame.

They dragged him into a warehouse room, locked him up, and handcuffed carts.

Scars were found everywhere on the boy’s body with jet lag, and he weighed 9 kg less than the average of his peers.

The story of how he rescued a boy who had been abused by his stepfather with the keen observation and agility of a restaurant employee was later revealed through the American broadcaster CNN.

Florida’s Orange County Attorney’s Office has charged 36-year-old Timothy Wilson on charges of abuse of her adopted son.

The boy’s mother, Christine Swann, will also be charged with aiding and abetting abuse.

An Orlando police official said: “Without Kervalo’s help at that time, this child may not have been with us for long.”

“We have to pay attention to those in need and do something to change the situation,” Kervalo said.
