This year, China is at the top in terms of population. However, it is estimated that India will surpass China in terms of population next year. The UN report also states that the world’s population will continue to increase. But by 2050, the birth rate and population will fall by 0.5 per cent.

However, the United Nations predicts that the birth rate will increase to about 850 crores in 2030, 970 crores in 2050 and 1040 crores in 2080s. Then there will be no significant increase in population until 2100.

But other figures indicate that the total population rate will not cross 100 crores. Reports indicate that the global population will be less than 100 crores in 2064. It will be 880 crores in 2100, according to a study conducted by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation in the United States.

Researchers at the University of Washington assure that the total population will remain between 900 crore and 1000 crore. In 2021, the average birth rate was lower. A woman had an average of 2.3 children during her lifetime. In 1950 it was five children for every woman. By 2050, this is predicted to drop to 2.1 children per woman. According to the report, eight countries, namely Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines and Tanzania, contribute the most to the world’s population.
