[뉴스 더하기] Regional spread of ‘gas station out of stock’

It’s time to add depth to the news, Kim Hyun-soo’s ‘News Plus’.

A while ago, this was posted on an online community in Sejong City.

“I’ve never seen a gas station sold out while driving in 20 years. ○○ gas station in Godong-dong is out of stock today.”

Logistics chaos sparked by a tug of war between the cargo unions and the government, and gas station out-of-stocks are spreading to the region.

According to Korea National Oil Corporation’s Opinet, as of the 1st, there are 49 gas stations out of stock across the country.

As of 2:00 today, the number has increased to 81.

A total of 19 gas stations in Daejeon and Chungnam are out of stock.

From Jeonnam to Ulsan, out-of-stock gas stations are also expanding in the southern region.

Since this data is published through the voluntary participation of gas stations, it is expected that there will be more gas stations that are actually out of stock.

The war of nerves between the government and the cargo union is intensifying over the secure freight rates system.

It is known that more than 70% of truck drivers who supply oil to gas stations have joined the cargo union, and the strike of the cargo union has been long, which has disrupted the oil supply chain at gas stations .

The safe price system and the sunset system triggered this situation.

Let’s look again at what it is.

First of all, the safe freight rate system is a system where the law sets the minimum freight rate for truck drivers and fines are imposed on carriers who do not comply with it.

You can think of it as the minimum wage in the freight industry.

There are similar laws overseas in Brazil, New South Wales, Australia, and British Columbia, Canada, intended to prevent truck drivers from overworking, overloading and speeding.

In Korea, the sunset system was implemented in 2020 only for export/import containers and cement items.

The sunset system, literally as the sun sets, is a system where the effect of laws and regulations automatically disappears after a certain period of time.

The cargo union demands, “Repeal the sunset system of the safe price system and expand the scope of the application.”

At the time of the strike in June, the government had consulted with the Cargo Workers Union that it would continue to promote the safe fare system and also discuss expanding items, but later, the government announced that it would “extend the secure price system for 3 years” and “can’t expand items.” The strike started again on the 24th of last month.

Even after two rounds of negotiations, the gap between the government and the cargo union could not be reduced at all, and the government even used the power card of the start-up order.

Korea Cargo Solidarity claims the effectiveness of the safe price system, saying that after the implementation of the safe price system, the experience of overloading cement items has decreased by 20% percent and the long-term container operation rate of 12 an hour or more has fallen. from 29% to 1.4%, but the government judges that it is not effective.

However, if the out-of-stock situation continues to spread in mercury stock, which is currently declining rapidly, heating oil supply is also a concern.

It is expected that the damage that people feel through their skin will increase.

Where is the end of the bitter conflict between the government and the cargo union?

The bitter winter air feels colder.

Until now, it was ‘news plus’.
