Gas station ‘oil crisis’… Will the oil refinery issue a start-up order?

Some gas stations are running out of gas.

As oil is an essential commodity in people’s lives, the government is considering issuing a business start-up order to tank truck drivers who refuse to transport it if the situation worsens.

This afternoon at a gas station in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.

There is a sign at the entrance that reads ‘gasoline out of stock’.

Since there is no oil, the price of gasoline is written as ‘0 won’.

[주유소 관계자]

“It was until yesterday. Yes.”

[휘발유 차량 운전자]

“I saw there was a gas station that said the oil had run out, but I didn’t know it had run out already, so I came to fill it up and just went back.”

Other gas stations in Yongsan-gu, Seoul also do not have gasoline in stock.

There is also a piece of paper that says ‘out of stock’ in the petrol price column.

“This is because there is no car (that transports oil) because of the cargo strike.”

“I came to the gas station, but the gasoline line is out of stock. I think this is the first time I’ve seen gasoline out of stock in my life in over 40 years.”

As of this afternoon, 26 gas stations across the country have run out of gas.

Some gas stations in Seoul and the metropolitan area with high sales experience oil shortages first.

The government estimates that tank truck drivers transporting oil have a cargo union membership rate of 70% nationwide and 90% in the metropolitan area.

“If it is prolonged, it can be a case of holding back the ankles of those who make a living using vehicles and ordinary people…”

As of yesterday, the remaining inventory at gas stations across the country is about 8 days supply of gasoline and 10 days supply of diesel.

The government plans to urgently use military tank trucks to transport oil If the situation worsens, it is considering issuing an order to start operations against tank truck drivers.
