Local reports have emerged that the house built by Hollywood actor Brad Pitt for hurricane victims is suffering from mold and other problems.

Recently, foreign media such as The Guardian reported that residents who bought a house with Brad Pitt are outraged by the house that has been transformed into an uninhabitable environment.

In 2006, Brad Pitt announced plans to build a sustainable, flood-proof, eco-friendly home in the Lower Nineth Ward, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, hit by Hurricane Katrina.

He planned to do a restoration project through his foundation, ‘Make It Right’, and to provide about 109 houses to residents at affordable prices.

However, the houses built in this way have an unexpected problem. Several flaws were found in lawsuits filed by some residents in 2018 against Brad Pitt and the Foundation. The lack of waterproofing has caused mold to form, stair railings to collapse, fires due to electrical problems, and ruptured pipes.

Termites and toxic molds were a problem in some houses, and many residents became ill. It is reported that one resident was killed.

Eventually, the residents filed a class action lawsuit for severe emotional distress and financial loss. “Despite months or years of requests, the defendants have not been able to properly restore[the home],” the petition said.

Ron Austin, an attorney representing the residents, said: “Some residents have spent their lifetime savings on this house. A lot of residents believed in Brad Pitt, but their house is crumbling.”

According to residents, the website of the foundation was not accessible and the office was closed. Residents claim that there is no place to turn because of this.

Brad Pitt denied liability. A source close to him demanded that Pitt’s name be removed from the list of lawsuits, saying “Brad Pitt was initially involved in helping people, but then stepped down from the project and took over by someone else.”

He continued, “I have made it clear that Pete is not liable. However, I am personally doing my best to resolve this lawsuit amicably. I want to help make this case a good outcome.”
