‘Mammooty Sukhama Driver’… Mammootty drove 2300 km in Australia

Mammootty’s love for cars and driving is well known. ‘If you become a driver, you should be Mammootty’s, don’t take any job. Sit in the back seat. The old man will drive the car…’ is the general comment about the megastar. Now the video of Mammootty driving 2,300 km in Australia is going viral.

The trip was from Sydney to Canberra and from there to Melbourne and then to Tasmania. Mammootty was the full time driver on this trip. Robert Kuriakos, who heads Mammootty’s philanthropic activities, shared the footage of the actor driving on social media.

Full version of the note

A quote from an earlier feature about Mamooka that sticks in my mind. The text in it, prepared while traveling with Mammooka, was: ‘Kalame…. Mammootty who drives the car calls me Pimpe…’ On this journey through the Australian road, the same Mammooka next to me and Kala behind him. Sydney to Canberra. From there to Melbourne and then on to Tasmania.

Mamooka was driving very quietly through the meadows and huge trees. It has been heard that Mamooka often gets angry when he sees others breaking the rules while driving. But perhaps because travelers in Australia are not like ours, Mamooka never once got angry. Instead, he was humming, happy to see the rain, remembering his college days, and joking a lot. There are three of us. Mammooka Rajasekharan’s best friend, Sulphath madam and me.

Mammooka drove both coasts of Tasmania, an island state larger than Kerala. From Hobart to Launceston, from there via Swansea, Port Arthur and back to Hobart. Mamooka drove the car tirelessly, but excited with every kilometer. With Roshit’s brand new car with number plate ‘DON007’ driving around Tasmania in two days, Mammooka drove a total distance of two thousand three hundred kilometers on the first leg of his visit to Australia!

Another miracle. Mamooka knew the traffic rules here better than me who has been driving in Australia for 10 years. In between we argued over some traffic law. Mamooka never gave up. Finally, sitting in the car, I called an experienced officer from the Tasmanian Department of Transport (Sunil Nair) to clear my doubts. Mamooka was right. We had Kiran James in Sydney to present the locations, Madanan Chellappan in Melbourne for the Great Ocean Drive and Kiran Jaya Prakash for the Coastal Drive including Phillip Island. But Mammooka became a complete resident of Australia by making them all spectators. So some good days, good moments, scenes I found it hard to believe that it wasn’t a movie running before my eyes.. Thanks to God and time.. and to my dear Mammooka who made me be a companion.
