Christchurch: New Zealand’s Ross Taylor retires from Test cricket with a rare achievement in the Test series against Bangladesh (NZ vs BAN). Bangladesh’s last batsman Ebadot Hossain has been ruled out of the Taylor Test.

It was only Taylor’s third wicket in 112 Tests. The last time Taylor bowled in a Test was in October 2013. Kiwis skipper Tom Latham bowled Ross Taylor in the final Test after the pacers were unable to bowl due to lack of light.

Taylor dismissed Ebadat Hussain in the third ball of the over to end the Bangladesh innings and give the Kiwis an innings victory. With this, Taylor became the first player to take a wicket in the last Test of his career without conceding a single run. This is only the seventh time in his 14 – year Test career that Taylor has bowled.

Ross Taylor’s previous Test wickets came in the 2010 Test series against India, when he dropped Harbhajan Singh and S Sreesanth. New Zealand lost the first Test by an innings and 117 runs in the second Test. Taylor, who batted in the last Test, was out for 28 off 39 balls.

After the match, Taylor said he was happy to end his career with a wicket and was aiming to leave with a win. Taylor played 112 Tests and averaged 7684 runs at an average of 44.16. Taylor is New Zealand’s all-time leading run-scorer in Test cricket with 19 centuries and the longest-serving Test batsman for the Kiwis alongside Daniel Vettori.
