Panasonic 4680 battery will be put into production next year, made in Japan and will be supplied to Tesla

Japanese battery maker Panasonic announced a new 4680-format lithium-ion battery in October last year, and will supply electric car maker Tesla. The 4680 format refers to a battery size of 46mm wide and 80mm high, which is about 5 times larger than the batteries currently supplied to Tesla.

Panasonic announced yesterday that the production date of the 4680 lithium-ion battery will be before the end of March 2024, and the battery will be manufactured in their Japanese factory. Japan’s “Nikkei Shimbun” earlier reported that for 4680 lithium-ion batteries, Panasonic plans to invest about 80 billion yen (about 5.43 billion Hong Kong dollars) in their factory in Wakayama to build two new production lines, but Panasonic has not confirmed Is the reported amount correct?

Five times larger than the current lithium battery, the 4680 format battery will help increase the cruising range, which is believed to help Tesla attract more drivers to consider and switch to electric vehicles.
