Will Musinsa be involved in another fake product controversy?

Products sold through resale platform sold out, deemed fake by Naver Cream
Musinsa “It is not confirmed whether it is genuine or fake… Reinforce a real evaluation system”

[아시아경제 문화영 인턴기자] Musinsa is expected to be boasted in the ‘fake workshop’ again. Nike products sold through the sold-out Musinsa resale platform (reselling limited edition products at higher prices) were deemed to be counterfeit products in the process of being resold on the Naver Cream resale platform. This is the third time this year that Musinsa has been embroiled in a fake product controversy.

According to the related industry on the 25th, the product ‘Nike Jordan 1 Retro High OG Jim Red’ purchased by user A from Musinsa Soldout was deemed fake by Naver Cream. In response, Mr A was informed that the transaction was not possible and said, “I bought it for about 350,000 won after selling out, and as soon as I bought it, I sold it without touching the wrapping at all .”

At the moment, Mr A said, “We have asked the cream side to secure closed circuit television (CC) for the inspection center board.” He also added, “From the process where the cream staff remove the parcel I sent and remove the wrapping processed when sold out, to the plastic rings for the sold out inspection, each a pair of shoes all appear on the screen.”

Regarding this, Musinsa is in a position that it was posted on the community and it has not been confirmed whether it is genuine or fake. An official from Musinsa said, “After the fake product decision, I have not heard the reason, the process, or the result of the fake product decision from the cream side yet. “You can ask for it,” he said.

In addition, he added, “If a product initially sold after selling out has a fake problem on another platform, it will be re-examined and if the result is judged to be fake, compensation will be made.”

This is not the first time that fake products have been sold out and creams have happened. Last August, the ‘Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Pravis Scott’ sold for around 2 million won after selling out was deemed fake during the cream inspection process. Earlier in April, a controversy arose over whether the ‘Pear of God Essential’ T-shirts sold by the Musinsa subsidiary were fake. At the time, Peer of God, the manufacturer of the product, concluded, “All six Essential T-shirts (sold by Musinsa) cannot be judged to be authentic.”

On the other hand, Musinsa announced that it would further strengthen the genuine evaluation system in cooperation with the Trade-related Intellectual Property Protection Association (TIPA) under the Korea Customs Service as the controversy over counterfeit products continues . In addition, the inspection standards of parallel importers’ products entering the store have been significantly strengthened and a procedure for verifying authenticity has been added.

Parallel importers carry out checks on the labeling of all products they intend to sell through the Musinsa service, and check whether information that consumers need to check, such as tags and care labels attached to products, has been damaged . In addition, all tickets sold must re-verify the product in question as counterfeit and compensate the buyer for 300% of the purchase price if determined to be counterfeit.
